"As a volunteer for Mid-States Association of College Stores, I have improved my skills and professional confidence with the help of many other Mid-States members and volunteers. I now have a network of retail contacts, doing similar jobs to mine, to assist me in my professional and personal endeavors. (It doesn't hurt that this increases my job opportunities, if I should find myself in the market for one!)

When I look back upon the reasons for initially volunteering, I recall a statement that I came across on the web . . . "One Person can make a difference and Every Person should try." I wasn't confident enough to think that I could make a difference for anyone else at the time I volunteered, but I was appreciative enough to know that I wanted to assist those that had made a difference for me. That is when I spoke up to volunteer - and I haven't stopped since.
